History
In its early days, the airport can accommodate small aircraft such as the ones made by Fokker.
There was an upgrade work to the airport in anticipation of a visit by Queen Elizabeth II to the Royal Town of Kuala Kangsar in 1989.
In 2011, the airport was upgraded with the cost of RM 37 million. The upgrade work started in April 2011 and was completed within schedule in November 2012. It includes the construction of a new roof and facade, enlargement of the arrival and departure halls and new air conditioning system in the terminal to improve the comfort of passengers. The runway’s current length is 2 km, slightly longer than the previous one at 1.8 km. With the new upgrade, the airport can now accommodate larger aircraft such as Boeing 733-800 as well as Airbus A320. The apron was also widened to accommodate 3 aircraft being on the ground simultaneously.
