MH 114 (9M-MXA) Declared Emergency, Switched Back to Normal Landing

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 Jan 2015 – Malaysia Airlines’ Kathmandu-bound MH 114 (Registration number 9M-MXA) has declared emergency en route to Kathmandu, enough to cause a stir among aviation enthusiasts and plane spotters. Twitter feed can be seen flooded with questions asking about the aircraft. Flightradar app also displayed a notification regarding the emergency status.

After few time in turnaround, the plane changed back squawk code to 2000 (no longer in emergency) and proceed with landing. The aircraft involved is 9M-MXA, in Malaysia Airlines retro livery.

Qualifications & Experience

Requirements for the Position of Direct Entry Captain 
A minimum of 7000 hours total flying time (only front seat time on turboprop and/or turbojet aircraft can be counted).
  • A minimum of 3000 hours command time on multi-crew; multi-engine commercial jet aircraft with MTOW of 50 tonnes or more.
Note: We do not accept simulator time for flying hours calculation.
  • Must hold a valid ICAO ATPL with an unrestricted class one medical certificate
  • English language fluency (written and verbal comprehension); must be at least equal to ICAO Englishlevel 5.
  • Must have flown as an aircraft commander on a jet meeting the mentioned criteria; within 12 months of joining
  • Type rated and experienced on modern Boeing or Airbus aircraft. Widebody experience is preferred.

New Airbus A350 for Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines has decided to utilize the new Airbus A350 for its Asia and London routes, starting as early as October 2017. The aircraft, also known as Airbus A350 XWB is a family of long-range, twin-engine wide-body jet airliners developed by Airbus.

The company has signed a long-term lease agreement for four new Airbus A350-900s with Air Lease Corporation (ALC). Additionally, two A350-900s and two A330-900neo (New Engine Option). It is not known whether the lease type is wet lease or dry lease.

Malaysia Airlines CEO, Christoph Mueller has expressed interest in acquiring more aircraft of that type to fulfill Malaysia Airlines’ future needs. The aircraft will be delivered between fourth quarter of 2017 and second quarter of 2018.
