The airport also serves as the Royal Malaysian Air Force baseIn 2008, Tourism Malaysia and Taiwan inked a deal of 23 chartered direct flights between Taipei to Kuantan Airport, resulting in Kuantan Airport being the first airport in East Coast Peninsular Malaysia to operate international flights.
